Dear SSEM Help Guys:
I received a current IEP on a student that recently moved into our district.  Do I need to retype the whole IEP into our SSEM system?

Answer:

Yes, you need to retype the whole IEP into the SSEM system.  The reason that you need  to do this is so that the student information can be extracted into the EMIS system.  The SSEM system will soon be the way that all special education information will be pulled into EMIS.  So if we didn't have an IEP in the SSEM database it would not show on an extracted EMIS report.

If the software develops on schedule, by December of this year students transferring from other districts using SSEM will be able to have their files transfer electronically.  So that will make some situations easier.

Also, by creating an IEP in SSEM you will be able to use the progress reports in SSEM, allow other teachers to view the IEP, and allow parents to view the IEP if your school is set up to allow that.
